On October 24, 1986, Aubrey Drake Graham was born to Dennis Graham (his father), who was a drummer by profession, and Sandra Graham, who was a teacher and a florist by profession. He had a pretty hard childhood, especially after his parents separated and finally got divorced when he was just five years of age. His father moved to Memphis. His father was a great drummer and had played for musicians like Jerry Lee Lewis. After he moved to Memphis, he got into drug peddling and was arrested several times. 

Drake recalled going to Memphis with his mother, every summer, to meet his father if he wasn’t in jail. Drake was completely brought up by his mother and shared how money was tight, growing up. His mother worked hard to pay the expenses and to send him to a good school. Drake went to a Jewish day school. He and his mother lived in a townhome, occupying the bottom half. 

After completing his schooling, he went to Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. At the institute, he discovered his interest in acting and music and took admission to the Vaughan Road Academy.
