Early Life

Michael Gerard Tyson was born on June 30th, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York. Tyson grew up in a difficult area with a stepfather who was interested in crime and gambling. Tyson and his mother had to move when he was ten years old due to financial difficulties. Tyson had been arrested for 38 offenses by the age of 13, and he was frequently involved in fights with older kids who mocked his voice. Tyson’s biological father is recorded as “Purcell Tyson,” but Tyson knew Jimmy Kirkpatrick as his father. Kirkpatrick was a good baseball player in Grier Town, North Carolina, a primarily black area that was annexed by the city of Charlotte. Kirkpatrick married and had a son, Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick, Tyson’s half-brother.

Tyson’s fighting talent was noticed by a juvenile detention instructor and former boxer while he was still in school. After training with a few different coaches, he met Cus D’Amatto, a trainer who would have a huge impact on the future boxing champion. D’Amatto became Tyson’s legal guardian when his mother died when he was 16 years old. Tyson has also worked with Kevin Rooney since he was a child. Tyson spent much of his upbringing in and among high-crime areas. His first battle, according to an interview with Details, was with a larger youth who had ripped the head off one of Tyson’s pigeons. Tyson was a junior when he dropped out of high school.

Personal Life

Tyson lives in the Nevada town of Seven Hills at present. He has three wives and seven children, one of whom is deceased; in addition to his biological children, Tyson considers his second wife’s oldest daughter to be one of his own. From February 7, 1988, to February 14, 1989, he was married to actress Robin Givens. Givens was most recognized for her role in the sitcom Head of the Class at the time. From April 19, 1997, to January 14, 2003, he was married to Monica Turner. In January 2002, Turner filed for divorce from Tyson, stating that he had committed adultery throughout their five-year marriage, which “has not been forgiven nor condoned”. The couple had two children: Amir, a son, and Rayna, a girl. In 2013, he admitted in public about his alcoholism.

Career

Tyson made his professional boxing debut when he was 18 years old. He had previously competed in the Junior Olympics as an amateur. After winning 26 of his first 28 fights by KO or TKO, he soon rose to become the champion. People felt Tyson was unbeatable for a long time.

In 1986 and 1988, Tyson was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine. From 1987 through 1990, he was the undisputed world heavyweight champion. Tyson was undefeated in his first 19 professional contests.

Tyson was inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013 and was the highlight of the ceremony. In 2015, Tyson was admitted into the Southern Nevada Hall of Fame, along with four other inductees who have ties to the region. In a 2014 interview with The Ring magazine, Tyson ranked his toughest opponents in eleven categories, including quickest jab, best defense, fastest hands, fastest feet, and so on. Tyson was voted 9th out of 20 heavyweight champions by The Ring magazine in 2017, based on a survey of trainers, matchmakers, media, historians, and boxers. Tyson is presently ranked number 13 on BoxRec’s list of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.

That figure is roughly over $700-million when considering inflation. Unfortunately, Tyson saw all of his riches disappear in 2003 owing to his irresponsible spending habits. Mike Tyson began living a wealthy lifestyle during his prime career. He squandered millions on mansions, vehicles, jewelry, lavish gifts for strangers, and even a Bengal tiger collection. His tigers were sold for $70,000 each and kept in a custom-built zoo in his garden. Mike paid $125,000 each year to keep an animal trainer on staff. Later on, he went through a downhill in his career and ultimately lost a part of his wealth.
