Recalling Life of Margarita Kahlo Cardena

Margarita Kahlo Cardena was the half-sister of Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderon, who was a famous Mexican painter, especially known for her paintings and self-portraits and the works inspired by the artefacts and nature of Mexico. In this article, we are going to learn about Frida Kahlo’s secret half-sister Margarita Kahlo Cardena.

About Her

Guillermo Kahlo and Maria Cardena’s youngest daughter was Margarita Kahlo Cardena. She was born the youngest daughter of Guillermo Kahlo and Maria Cardena. She was born on October 5, 1897, in the Federal district of Mexico City. Furthermore, she died on February 15th, 1988, at the age of 90, in her native Mexico. She was buried in Cuauhtémoc, which is in Mexico City, Mexico.

Early Life

Her father, Carl Wilhelm Kahlo, also known as Guillermo Kahlo, immigrated from Germany in 1890. He is a well-known Mexican-German photographer. His photographic art is exceptional; he has many important photographical documents, such as churches, landmarks, architectural works, and so on.

He was married to Maria Cardena. In 1895, when he was 26 years old and his beloved wife, 23 years old, died while she went into labour, both mother and child died. Therefore, Guillermo Kahlo and Maria Cardena had two beautiful daughters named Maria Luisa and Margarita.

Guillermo Kahlo requested Antonio Calderon for her daughter Matilde’s hand in marriage on the same night that his wife passed away giving birth to their third child in the year 1898. Later, they got married and had four daughters, one of whom was Frida Kahlo.

Career

Wilhelm and Matilde were married six months later. After the wedding, the first marriage children were sent to convent by their father Wilhelm Kahlo.

As she got a proper education and was a good student Margarita Kahlo Cardena completed her studies, and then passed college all with flying colours. Later on, she did her masters as well. In the future, she became a teacher and spent her whole life educating the younger generation.

In their early years, Frida and her sisters seldom interacted with their two half-sisters; it wasn’t until much later in life that they began to get along with Maria Luisa and Margarita. Unlike her step-sister Frida, who is still one of the most inspirational and legendary female artists, Margarita was an amateur painter.

One of the famous paintings by Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderon is her self-portrait with a thorn necklace and hummingbird. In the year 1940, she created this gorgeous art piece. Following her split from Diego Rivera and the end of her relationship with photographer Nickolas Muray, Kahlo created the self-portrait, which features a black cat and a monkey.

Marital Status

There is nothing much in the internet about Margarita Kahlo Cardena’s marriage. She got married to Antonio Pinedo. He was the son of Agustin Pinedo and Marie Chambon. He was born in the year 1881 and at the age of 48, he died in the year 1929.

Antonio Pinedo’s second wife was Margarita Kahlo Cardena, and his first wife was Desconocida Rajas. Antonio Pinedo and Desconocida Rajas had one child, but after a few years, they got separated and Antonio married Margarita.

Margarita Kahlo Cardena and Antonio Pinedo had two beautiful children. They led a very happy married life with their two children.

Conclusion

Margarita Kahlo Cardena was a loving daughter, caring sister, affectionate wife and amendable mother of two wonderful children. Moreover, she was a marvellous teacher who loved her students. Most people do not know this incredible woman, but she will never be forgotten by the people who know her.
