The American rapper and businessman was born on June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, to parents Ray West and Dr. Donda C. West. Ray West is a former Black Panther and later became a Christian Counselor.
Ray West was one of the first black photojournalists at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While Dr. Donda C. West was an English Professor at Clark Atlanta University and the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University. Dr. Donda retired and became the manager of Kanye. Kanye West’s parents divorced when he was just 3 years old. He and his mother then moved to Chicago, Illinois.
Living in Chicago, Illinois, Kanye attended the Polaris School for Individual Education. When he was 10 years old, Kanye and his mother moved to Nanjing, China. His mother was part of the exchange program and taught at Nanjing University. Kanye was the only foreigner in his class and settled in well. He also learned the Chinese language quickly.
