Personal Life

Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. comes from a family of boxers like his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., who was a professional boxer who’s well known for fighting Sugar Ray.

Growing up, he experienced a lot of difficulties as his mother was a drug addict. His father wasn’t around to raise him until he was old enough to start boxing as Floyd Sr. trained him to become a fighter. Though their time spent was short as his father was sent to prison so Floyd had to move in with his grandmother.

As Floyd spent most of his time training in boxing, he’s never thought of any other profession aside from the sport. This eventually led him to drop out of school to focus more of his time training with the full support of his grandmother. With this, Floy Mayweather Jr. became a fully fledge amateur boxer.

Spending Habits

The boxer is also shown to live a lavish lifestyle as he tends to spend his money on luxurious items. This also includes the number of expensive properties that he’s been purchased throughout the years. A notable buy that he’s made was in 2017 where he’s purchased a 25,000 sq ft. mansion around Beverly hill for $25.5 million.

Floyd also has a collection of cars, private jets, and jewelry and he’s not shy to show his collection off to the masses. During interviews, Floyd talks about how he has $15 million worth of luxury cars around his garages and how he’s also bought 2 Gulfstream jets. It’s also said that the boxer has even spent around $18 million just to buy a single watch from Jacob the Jeweler.

Though with all the spending, there’s still some controversy that went on between Floyd and the IRS. They demanded $22 million worth of tax from the boxer from his income from 2015. With his income going to the hundreds of millions, it’s crazy that Floyd said he didn’t have the money to pay for it. His lawyers had to tell the IRS that they’ll get paid for his fight with McGregor.

Career as a Boxer

During Floyd’s career as an amateur boxer, he was able to have a positive record with a count of 84 wins while only losing 4 times. There are also several awards that he’s won like getting a bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics. He’s even won the National Golden Gloves Championships three times.

By 1996, the boxer began his professional debut by knocking out Roberto Apocada on the second round. Following this, he’d go on to have a winning streak throughout his entire career with a clean record of 50 wins and 0 losses. These wins would include six boxing championships weight classes from super featherweight to super welterweight.

Notable Fights

In March 2009, the boxer was going to fight one of the biggest opponents he’s ever faced, Manny Pacquiao. The fight goes on to make $180 million in PPV where Floyd won the fight and was able to earn more than $25 million.

His next notable fight was with Saul Alvarez in 2013 which earned him a total of $75 million after winning the fight. This also gave Floyd the record of having the highest purse in boxing history until his rematch of Pacquiao in 2015.

The rematch between two of the best fighters of their generation was so sought after that it became the highest revenue-generating fight in boxing. Floyd was able to earn $250 million while Pacquiao gained $150 million. The fight lasted for 12 rounds with Mayweather winning by unanimous decision.

Back in 2017, another high-earning fight went on with his career as he faced off with the MMA fighter Connor Mcgregor. The fight gained so much attention that it made around 4.5 million in PPV purchases and $700 million in total revenue. The fight would end with Mayweather winning the fight earning him around $300 million while McGregor only getting $130 million.

Being one of the biggest names in boxing history, Floyd has managed to collect a number of achievements throughout his career. Being able to win six boxing championships in five weight classes, it’s no surprise that the champion currently has 9 Major World Titles.

He’s also able to win a number of honorary titles from the WBC and the WBA. These would include the WBC 24k World Champion belt from his fight with Canelo Alvarez and also the WBC Money Champion Belt from his fight against Mcgregor.
