Daybreak Season 2: Release Date, Cast, New Season/Cancelled

A post-apocalyptic comedy-drama encompassing the adventures of a group is how you could describe Daybreak. It is a television sitcom that is based on the novel Daybreak, written by Brian Ralph. The sitcom was created by Brad Peyton and Aron Eli Coleite. 

Amidst the countless movies and sitcoms that have already been reigning the OTT platforms, Daybreak has managed to create a place for itself and has earned a significant fan base for itself from across the globe. It premiered on Netflix on October 24, 2019, and has been a successful series till now. Ever since its first season went off the air, fans of the show have been eagerly waiting for the release of its second season.

The show Daybreak has been based on a novel  of the same name and written by 

Brian Ralph. It belongs to the genre of Post-apocalyptic, Black comedy, Teen drama, and Adventure. The show features Colin Ford, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Sophie Simnett, Austin Crute, Cody Kearsley, Jeanté Godlock, Gregory Kasyan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Matthew Broderick in important roles.

Daybreak has been helmed by Brad Peyton and Aron Eli Coleite, and it has been produced by Michael J. Malone and Bruce Dunn. Brad Peyton, Aron Eli Coleite, and Jeff Fierson are the executive producers of the show and the background score of the show has been given by Andrew Lockington. The cinematography for Daybreak has been accomplished by Duane Manwiller and Jaron Presant and it has been edited by Rachel Goodlett Katz, Tirsa Hackshaw, and Amber Bansak. 

Daybreak premiered on October 24, 2019, on its original network Netflix. ASAP Entertainment and Lightbulb Farm are the production companies involved in its production process. The first season of the show had 10 episodes and each episode was 38–50 minutes long. The entire show has been shot on a Single-camera setup and is yet one of the highest grossers amongst its contemporaries.


The story of the series- Daybreak revolves around the life of a 17-year-old high schooler who is more of an outcast in Canadian High named Josh Wheeler. The plot of the story is based on him searching for his missing British girlfriend Sam Dean in the post-apocalyptic town of Glendale in California. He is accompanied by a group of not normal but still humans including a 10-year-old girl who is a pyromaniac named Angelica and the guy who used to formerly bully Josh Wheeler in high school named Wesley. 

Wesley is struggling to become a samurai and is a pacifist. The group led by Josh tries their best to survive among the stampeding hordes of Mad Max-style gangs including the likes of some evil jocks and formerly cheerleaders who were later turned into Amazonian warriors and a lot more of the kind. Adults in the series who were turned into zombie resembling creatures either forcefully or by wish are known as Ghoulies and the mysterious and enigmatic personality that goes by the name – Baron Triumph.


Colin Ford essayed the role of Josh Wheeler, and Alyvia Alyn Lind featured as Angelica Green. Austin Crute played the role of Wesley Fists, while Cody Kearsley featured in the role of Turbo “Bro Jock” Pokaski. Jeanté Godlock played the character of Mona Lisa and Gregory Kasyan featured in the role of Eli Cardashyan. Krysta Rodriguez played the character of Ms. Crumble, and Matthew Broderick was seen playing the role of Michael Francis Xavier Burr. 

Some of the Actors who featured in recurring roles included Chester Rushing who played Terrence “Terry”, Markazian, who was the captain of the golf team, Micah McNeil who featured as Jerry, Alan Trong who featured as Larry, Mickey Dolan who featured as Gary Stern, Jon Levert who played the role of Barry, and Luke Valen who played the role of #54. All these characters were a part of The Jocks.

The Daybreakers included A.J. Voliton who played Fred, Abigail Townsend who played Vivienne, Chelsea Zhang who featured as Karen Jane “KJ”, Estrella Avila who played Jessica Huntley, Kevin Bransford who played Other Gay Josh, Jack Justice who played Jew-Fro Simon, and Bao Winn who played Rocco.

The Cheermazons included Jade Payton who featured in the role of Demi Anderson, Sandra Mae Frank who featured in the role of Victoria, Emily Snell who featured in the role of Miryam, Charlotte Benesch who featured in the role of Camilla, and Barbie Robertson who featured in the role of Veronica.


There were 10 episodes in the first season. The first episode was named “Josh vs. the Apocalypse: Part 1”. The second episode was named “Schmuck Bait!”. The third episode was named “The Slime Queenpin of Glendale, CA”. The fourth episode was named “MMMMMMM-HMMMMMM”.

The fifth episode was named “Homecoming Redux or My So Called Stunt Double Life”. The sixth episode was named “5318008”. The seventh episode was named “Canta Tu Vida”. The eighth episode was named “Post Mates”. The ninth episode was named “Josh vs. the Apocalypse: Part 2”. The tenth episode was named “FWASH-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!”.

When will season 2 be released?

Ever since the trailer of Daybreak season 1 was released, fans went mad for the show. After the show was released, it built a crazy fan following for itself and had a massive fan base across the globe. Season 1 of daybreak was loved by its audience and after it went off air, they were eagerly waiting for the release of its second season. After a long wait, the makers of the show finally broke the hearts of all its fans. In 2019, it was announced by Netflix that there will not be a season 2 to the show Daybreak, and the show was officially called off.
