What do you think of when you hear the word “Jumanji”? If your answer is Robin Williams, you’re probably born around the 1980s or the 90s.
On the other hand, if you say Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, then you’re probably born around the 21st century.
Well, it does not matter what century you were born in. Almost every person around the world is aware of the fictional game of Jumanji that captured our attention in the 90s.
In 1995, people were introduced to the movie called “Jumanji”. The movie starred Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt, and Bradley Pierce as the 4 players.
These people found an innocent-looking board game and got stuck with the job of finishing the game. This had been the plot of Jumanji until 2017 when Sony released “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”.
The modern reboot of the movie released the same mayhem and chaos as the first one. However, people saw Karen Gillian, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Dwayne Johnson in this installment.
The reboot of the movie introduced a lot of new upgrades to the dreaded game. Instead of being a board game, they made it a video game.
Rather than just rolling the dice, the players need to finish several different tasks. Aside from that, they also had 5 various avatars that represent the original players.
While they changed the game and improved it a bit, the basic rules stayed the same.
- Whoever started the game needs to end it.
- Nobody can escape the game without finishing the tasks.
- No foul play or cheating.
Due to the success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Sony released a sequel called “Jumanji: The Next Level” in 2019.
The movie introduced more players and took the game to a new level of fun and adventure.
Jumanji: The Next Level introduced new characters. This includes Danny Glover and Danny DeVito as the new players.
Aside from that, it also introduced new avatars played by Awkwafina. Rory McCann also played the new villain of the movie.
Just like the second installment, the third Jumanji movie was extremely successful. Because of this, fans are waiting for the news of the fourth installment.
Since all Jumanji movies are successful, can people expect a Jumanji 4? Let’s find out!

Jumanji 4 Release Date
According to reports, Jumanji 4 is in the works. However, the exact release date is yet to be announced.
For those who don’t know, there were 2 years between the December releases of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).
If Sony follows the same pattern, people should expect to see Jumanji 4 in December 2022.
The reason for this delay is the Covid-19 pandemic. Jake Kasdan, director of the film, said that they have paused filming the movie in April 2020.
Jumanji 4 Plot
Since the last Jumanji movie ended up with a cliffhanger, there is a huge possibility that the 4th installment of the film will pick up the story where it left off.
In Jumanji: The Next Level, people saw that animals came out from the game after a handyman messed with it. Just like the original movie, the game made it outside the real world.
Instead of people getting sucked into the game, the game brought itself outside. Thus, the plot of Jumanji 4 might start after the last event.
People should expect a lot of chaos and mayhem as animals have been unleashed from the game world.
For those who didn’t notice, Jurgen was an avatar in the game. This means that a person is playing him. So, who’s playing the character? Fans will probably find out in the 4th installment.
Jumanji 4 Cast
A major part of the success of the new Jumanji movies has been their characters. The Rock, Karen Gillian, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart captured the attention of fans.
Thus, people would probably be upset if they were not back as their in-game Jumanji characters.
The end of Jumanji: The Next Level means that these casts may not play as big of a role. However, it is difficult to imagine a sequel without these people.
Also, a lot of fans doubt that Sony will have a hard time convincing them to return. According to the cast, they loved filming the movie because it was so fun.
Fans should also expect the return of Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, and Alex Wolff as the unlucky players. Perhaps Danny DeVito will return as well as grandpa Eddie.
Danny Glover might also come back as Milo, Eddie’s friend. However, he chose to stay in the game in the final movie as the flying horse, Cyclone.
Other people that will probably return include Awkwafina and Nick Jonas as the other Jumanji characters. Fans might also see Bebe Neuwirth return as Nora Shepherd.
Jumanji is a Good Business for Sony
Sony knows that the Jumanji franchise is a good business. For those who don’t know, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made around $960 million at the box office.
On the other hand, Jumanji: The Next Level made around $800 million. This means that the franchise is worth $2 billion.
That is why there is no chance that Sony lets this one get away. It does not matter if the next movie doesn’t come out as soon as they might have liked it.
As of today, Sony hasn’t released any news about the release date of Jumanji 4. The current pandemic definitely affected the filming of the movie.
This probably means that 2022 is off the table at the very least. If things come together this year, fans could possibly get a new movie in early 2023. However, this is simply speculation.
Fans will have to wait for the 4th installment of the film. However, they can guarantee that development is in the works.
