Death Parade Season 2: All You Need to Know

It has been more than 6 years since Madhouse introduced Death Parade to anime fans around the world.

Madhouse released this anime series in 2015 and immediately became a huge hit in the anime industry.

It was so popular that fans were requesting for season 2. Madhouse had to deal with this extensive pressure from fans.

Even though the studio is known for producing one-season anime series, they gave in to the requests of fans and promised to release a second season of the show.

However, it has already been 6 years. What has happened to Madhouse’s promise? Is Death Parade Season 2 still happening? We’re going to find out.

What is the Death Parade?

Desu Paredo, commonly known as Death Parade, was inspired by the short film Death Billiards of Yuzuru Tachikawa.

The anime series ran from January 2015 to March 2015 for 12 episodes. Due to its popularity, Madhouse announced an upcoming season 2 of the series.

The anime was completely engaging. Each character portrays different lessons and difficult challenges of life.

While some characters only appear for 1-2 episodes, they manage to capture the attention of the viewers. In just a single episode, fans create a bond with these characters.

All human emotions, such as sadness, retribution, loneliness, wrath, and love, have been presented prominently in the series.

Unlike other anime series out there, Death Parade has a lot of thought put into it. The series makes the viewers appreciate life and encourages them to experience it fully.

Death Parade Season 1 Recap

Once they die in real life, people are sent in a pair of two to odd bars where a bartender works as an arbiter in a tower in the afterlife.

These dead individuals are called “guests”. They will have to play a game against one another and bet their souls.

These guests don’t remember that they’re already dead. However, the memories of their life will slowly start to return as the game progresses.

As they continue to play, the guests’ darkest side will start to uncover. Then, the arbiter will use this to judge if he should send the soul to the void or allow them to reincarnate.

Arbiters aren’t allowed to have any emotions. Unfortunately, Decim is an Arbiter filled with emotions. He also has an assistant named Chiyuki. Chiyuki was a guest before. However, Decim can’t give judgment to her.

Decim finally decides to give judgment to Chiyuki at the end of the series. He took her to the tower’s lowest level and presents her to the childhood home where Chiyuki’s mom is grieving over losing her.

Since they’re technically ghosts, Chiyuki’s mom can’t see her. After seeing her mom, Chiyuki became emotional.

Decim gave Chiyuki a choice. She can return to life by pressing a button. However, by doing so, she will also have to sacrifice another person’s life.

While Chiyuki wants to return to life, she can’t press the button. She doesn’t like the idea that someone out there is crying for the life of the person she’ll sacrifice.

Chiyuki asks Decim to press the button for her. However, Decim had a breakdown. He apologized for making up all of this to simply judge Chiyuki.

Decim hugged Chiyuki while crying. He is extremely sad to see her in pain. After the emotional breakdown, Decim sent Chiyuki to reincarnation.

Two new guests arrived after the scene. Decim kept on serving as an Arbiter. There is also a Chiyuki dummy sitting next to him.

Death Parade Season 2 Release Date

Unfortunately for fans, there has been no recent development on the second season of Death Parade. There is also no news about the release date of Death Parade Season 2.

To make things a bit positive, the studio did not make an announcement about the cancellation of Death Parade. Thus, fans can still hope for a second season.

In 2016, Madhouse announced Death Parade Season 2 due to the popularity of the first season. However, creating a second season for Death Parade can be extremely difficult.

Compared to other anime series that are usually based on manga and light novels, Death Parade is based only on Tachikawa’s short film.

If Madhouse will create Death Parade Season 2, they will have to create a new plotline that will work well with the ending of the first season. The reason for this is that they do not have any source material to use.

Death Parade Season 2 Cast

If Madhouse decides to produce Death Parade season 2, there is a huge possibility that the cast will return for the next season.

Thus, fans should expect some of the characters to return for season 2. This includes:

  • Decim – The acting arbiter for the dead and the protagonist of the show. He works as a bartender at Quindecim. His job is to pass judgment for people who died.
  • Nona – She is the manager of the Arbiters. She is also a bartender at Nona Ginta. She is the boss of Clavis, Ginti, Decim, and other arbiters.
  • Chiyuki – She is a previous guest. She was taken in by Nona and sent to Quindecim for Decim to judge. Since Decim can’t pass judgment on her, she was hired as his assistant.

Death Parade Season 2 Possible Plot

A more emotional side of Decim was presented in the first season of the show. After his judgment for Chiyuki, he realized that his methods are not right.

Because of this realization, fans should expect Decim to function differently in the next season. He will still work as an arbiter. However, he will pass on judgment based on what he learned from Chiyuki.

Death Parade Season 2 will probably show more interesting games and humans. It will also show the change of behavior of Decim towards his guests, making the show more promising.
