He belonged to a wealthy family, where Cushman Haagensen, his maternal grandfather, was a surgeon by profession, and his father Whitney Lee Savage was a filmmaker, painter, and animator. His grandfather had worked on breast cancer surgeries, while one of the most popular ventures of his father was Sesame Street.

He even owns an exhibit in Avampato Discovery Museum in Charleston, West Virginia. In 1968, his father directed an underground short film on Mickey Mouse in Vietnam. Whitney Lee Savage died in 1998. Adam Savage’s mother, Karen Savage was a psychotherapist. His parents had 5 other kids from their other partners. 2 older brothers, 2 older sisters, and a younger sister were also a part of his childhood.
