The couple raised their only child together and delayed marriage until they visited New York City in 1997. When Maisie was two, she was diagnosed with leukemia. When he met her mother, Maisie’s father, Grant Roffey, was a police officer. The couple met in a bar and invited him to repair her washing machine. Grant Roffey lives with his family on an organic farm near Plaistow, West Sussex.
Maisie’s mother is the family star, born on 22 February 1950 as Dame Julia Mary Walters. Her mother, Mary Bridget, was an Irish Catholic postal clerk, and her father, Thomas Walters, was an English builder and decorator. Julie Walters’ first job was in insurance at the age of 15.
