Golf Equipment: Should You Buy or Rent?

When you are just getting into golf, chances are that you do not have any equipment yet. At first, it makes sense to rent the equipment you need because you might not have the money to buy them outright. But as you play more, you might start wondering if buying is worth it. Both options have their pros and cons, especially for those who play golf often. In this article, we will be looking at and considering both options to see which one would be the better option.

Renting

Most golf courses have clubs and other equipment that you can rent for a session. Some offer an extensive selection of all equipment and accessories you need, while others only offer a few items. They might also rent out different equipment like clubs depending on your skill level.

Also, upscale, established, and larger courses will often have better equipment because they want the best players to come and play there. By renting, you will also learn which equipment is right for you and your play style which will make things easier when you decide to buy.

The biggest advantage of renting is that you do not have to incur the cost of buying the equipment you need. You also get to try different equipment and even see how you can adapt the equipment you are interested in to the courses you love playing at, as well as your playing style.

It is worth thinking about the cost of renting because if you do it often, you might find that you have exceeded the cost of buying the equipment within a few months of renting. If you do not play often though, renting remains the better option.

Buying

Buying a golf car for sale is the preferred option for those who play more than a few rounds every month. Once you incur the cost of buying the equipment such as several types of golf bags and other equipment, you do not have to think about it again unless something breaks or is damaged in some way.

You also get the option of choosing the equipment you like instead of relying on whatever the golf course offers you. Consistent gameplay is another advantage of buying because if you own golf clubs and play with them often, you come to learn how to play with them best.

Playing golf well requires muscle memory. You develop this by learning all about your golf clubs, e.g., the length, weight, and swing. This is very difficult to do if you rent because the equipment could change every time you visit a golf course.

There are numerous options when considering buying golf equipment. You could buy new or used, left or right-handed, a full or half set, and even in a physical store or online. Whichever way you choose to go about it will depend on your preferences.

Let’s look at some specific equipment to see whether to rent or buy them.

Balls, Tees, and Clubs

It is better to own golf balls and tees so that you have some with you all the time. You will lose many balls and tees when playing so you will need quite a few of them. Also, they are both so cheap that it makes sense to just buy instead of renting.

For clubs, buying or renting will depend on your preferences and how often you play. Those who are new to the game or play only a few times out of the year should rent golf clubs.  Once you have been playing for some time and are interested in playing often, it makes sense to buy rather than rent.

Carts

A golf cart is essential because the distance between holes could be great, and this adds up when you play a round of 18 holes. Buying a cart is a great option, especially if you pay more than a few times a month. The good news here is that you can buy a new or used cart, and there are lots of options to choose from.

Additionally, it has become much easier to get the parts you need for your golf cart in case it needs some repairs. For example, you can shop for not only tires, but rims and other parts too online easily and find all the parts you need regardless of the make and model of your golf cart.

Lasers and GPS

Every golfer knows the distance between homes, so they know how to line up their shots. Most people are not good at judging distance, especially if it is more than a few hundred yards. A laser and GPS make it easy to know the distance between homes or between where you are standing and where you are aiming.

These devices can make you a better golfer as you get better at judging instances. If you do play often, it makes sense to buy them. They can also come in handy in other situations outside the course.

Golf Simulator

You’re good at playing golf. The problem is you can’t play golf as often as you’d like because you lack time.

Do you have an unused room or a little extra space in your garage or basement? Consider investing in a golf simulator for indoor play.

The popularity of golf simulators has skyrocketed, and for good reasons. A golf simulator allows you to play your favorite sport all year round without regard to the time and weather. Also, it gives you a backup plan in case of sudden canceled outdoor plans with family, friends, or colleagues.

Equally important, a golf simulator can help you save money. Frequently going to a golf course and renting golf equipment can cause you thousands in the long run.

To buy or rent? The real answer is ‘it depends’, although both options have their advantages and disadvantages. Consider the cost of renting and how often you play to see which option appeals to you.
